CPL™ - Columbia Pneumatic Leather

CPL™ Pneumatic Leathers are made from carefully selected skins of African and Caribbean Hairsheep.  The skins are Chrome Tanned to our specifications for use in Pipe Organs and other Musical Instruments.  Our leathers have not been dyed brown or tan and we do not sell vegetable or combination tanned skins. Although all of our Hairsheep comes from foreign sources, most of it is tanned, and all of it is processed right here in America. Our pneumatic leathers are available in the following thicknesses:

We realize that sometimes our customers may not need an entire skin of a specific thickness of our pneumatic leather.  We are pleased to offer all of our CPL™ Leathers in pre-cut pieces as listed below.  These leathers are available in either our traditional white color or in our new CPL™ Black Pneumatic for an additional $.050 per piece!

CML™ - Columbia Maroon Leather

also known as "Aeolian or Morton" Style Leather

Just like our standard CPL™ Leathers, our CML (Columbia Maroon Leather) or as some call it, "Morton" style leather, is made from select skins of a specific breed of African Hairsheep.  The leather is then Chrome Tanned and dyed its signature color.  Following this, the special "sealing" process occurs.  The skins are subjected to significant pressure which forces the skin's natural oils to the surface where a specific amount of heat is applied to cause these oils to seal the pores in the skin without damaging the cellular structure of the leather.  The leather is then split on our own equipment to your desired thickness.  Following the splitting process, the leather is then staked.  Staking is a process which mechanically softens the skins so that they are supple and pliable.

CTL™ Tan Pneumatic Leather

Many of our customers have requested that we provide leather in the traditional "Tan Pneumatic" or "Brown Havana" color.  We are pleased to now be able to provide our fine, chrome tanned Hairsheep in this color.  Our CTL™ pneumatic leather is processed exactly like our Æolian/Morton skins. described above.  It is pre-sealed and ready for use in your most demanding project.

CPL For Small Clock Bellows

Please NOTE - 6" x 12" strips are split to order and may take up to 2 weeks for shipment.

CML™ is now available in a special XXX Extra Thin weight for Clock Makers and Restorers!  This leather averages .005" to .007" (.10mm - .18mm) in thickness.

This leather is suitable for small clock bellows and other components in musical clocks, singing birds and anywhere a very thin leather is required. 

CML and CTL XXX Extra Thin is available in 6" x 12" strips for $12.95 each

CPL™ Valve Leather

These are skins of our heavier weights of Hairsheep which have had the grain removed by our shaving machine.  The flesh (nap) side of the skins are buffed for a smooth, even nap.

CPL™ Valve is .030" - .035" thick and skins average 7.5 to 9.5 ft²

CPL Gusset Leather

These are skins of our heaviest weights of Hairsheep which have been finished in gloss white.  They are well suited for reservoir gussets and large pneumatics such as Tremolos, Shade Motors and Winkers.

CPL™ Gusset is available in Medium (approximately .045") and Thin (approximately .030").  Skin sizes range from about 4.5 - 8 ft²

CPL™ Split Leather

These are skins of our CPL™ Pneumatic Leather with the grain side split off.  They are suede like on both sides and are excellent for stoppering small wood pipes as well as for use as gaskets on small pneumatics.

CPL™ Split Leather is .015" - .025" thick and skins average 3 - 5 ft².

CKL™ Kangaroo Pneumatic Leather

Kangaroo is In Stock but only available in pre-punched pouches.

We are now taking orders for our newest product, Kangaroo Pneumatic Leather.  Our CKL skins are full chrome tanned and laboratory tested for chrome content and tensile strength.  These skins are soft, supple and and the strongest leather available for use as pneumatics.  The unique grain structure of Kangaroo causes it to be super strong even when very thin!  Try it for your next leathering project and we are sure you will be delighted with the results.

At the present time, our Kangaroo Leather is only available in punched pouches.  Please see the Punched pouches section of our web site for pricing information.

CPL™ Black Percussion Leather

Our Black Percussion Leather is made from Chrome Tanned Hairsheep which has been dyed black for use on percussion pneumatics.  It is a nice, strong, medium weight leather suitable for most medium sized pneumatics and small reservoir gussets.

CGL™ Columbia Goat Skin Leather

Our Goat Skin Leathers are made from hand selected skins which have been Chrome Tanned in the same manner as our CPL™ Leathers.  These skins are excellent for use as Gussets, Swell Shade Pneumatics, Pump Motors and anywhere a strong, heavier weight of leather is required. These skins are also available for use as Valve Leather.  Our CGL™ Valve Leathers have been buffed on the grain side for better glue adhesion and the nap flesh side has been double buffed for an even nap. Our Goat Skins are Tanned to our specifications in the USA. Our Goat Skin Leathers are available in the following types and Thicknesses:

CCL™ Packing Leather

Our Packing leather is made from suede Cow Hides that have been Chrome Tanned and dyed medium tan at the request of one or our favorite organ restorers.  He prefers this color for his restoration work on E. M. Skinner organs and we think it is great for any application.  These skins are beautifully finished and are well suited for gaskets, large pipe stoppers and large valves.  These skins are presently being tanned to our specifications at a tannery in Spain.

CCL™ Pack is approximately .040" thick and skins average 7-11 ft²

CCL™ Rib Leather

Our Rib Leather is made from Top Grain Cowhide sides that have been Chrome Tanned and toggled to remove most of the stretch in the skin.  They have a matte white finish and are perfectly suited for reservoir hinges.  These skins are tanned to our specifications right here in the USA!

CCL™ Rib is approximately .050" thick and skins average 20 - 35 ft²

CCL^TM Black Gusset Cowhide

Our Black Cowhide Leather is Chrome Tanned right here in the USA and Drum Dyed Black.  The skins are approximately .050" thick and they are absolutely gorgeous.  Unlike our CCL Rib, these skins have some slight "stretch" making them excellent for use as swell shade pneumatic leather, for use on vacuum pumps for player and reproducing pianos, orchestrion motors and anywhere a tough yet pliable leather is required.

CCL^TM Gusset - White Finished Cowhide

This leather is also made of top quality, chrome tanned cowhide.  It has a bright white finish applied just like our CPL Gusset skins and it also has a certain amount of "stretch" which allows it to be formed around corners.  It is excellent for Swell Shade Pneumatics, Pump Motors, Large Gussets and large power pneumatics.

CCL^TM Swell Shade Leather

This leather is also made of top quality, chrome tanned cowhide.  It has been dyed a cream color and it also has a certain amount of "stretch" which allows it to be formed around corners.  It is excellent for Swell Shade Pneumatics, Pump Motors, Large Gussets and large power pneumatics.

CDL™ - Extra Heavy Deerskin Gusset Leather

CDL™ Valve Leather

Our Deerskin Gusset Leather is made from domestic white tailed deer and it is chrome tanned to our specifications right here in the USA.  These skins are very soft and supple making excellent gussets for large reservoirs and feeders.

CCL™ Flap Valve Leather

This leather is made from our Chrome Tanned Cow Hide which has been pre-stretched especially for flap valves. It is a rich, chocolate brown color and it is useful for reed organs, player pianos and any pneumatic pump where a flap valve is needed.  It is approximately .065" thick, however we can split this leather to any thickness you request.  Since these skins are so large, (20 to 30 square feet in 1/2 skin), we are pleased to offer them pre-cut to your specifications.  The cost is $.12 per square inch plus a $7.50 cutting fee per order.  For example, if you needed a 3" x 13" piece, you would multiply 3 X 13, which equals  39 square inches, multiplied x $.12, this would cost $4.68 plus the $7.50 cutting fee.  The cutting fee is applied to your entire order only once no matter how many pieces you have cut.
