The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona, Pennsylvania contains a pipe organ that is truly unique in the United States. This instrument was built in 1931 by the G. F. Steinmeyer Company of Oettingen, Bavaria, Germany as their opus 1543. It has 4 manuals, 81 ranks. This organ was extremely influential in its impact on American Organ Builders such as G. Donald Harrison and famed organ consultant Senator Emerson Richards. Columbia Organ Works was awarded the contract to restore this magnificent instrument in 1989 and the restoration took place from 1990 - 1992. Since then, the instrument has been featured in several recordings, one of Diane Bish's "Joy of Music" television shows and it has been heard on Public Radio's Pipe Dreams. It remains under our care.
